It's already about 1 month after the exams.
So...
Uhh....
Erm... I bought a PSP...
And...Er... It came with Monster Hunter FREEDOM... And...It's..It's...(Fun??)
Right... So it's FUN!!
Kidding aside, I really bought a PSP(don't worry folks, it is 1.5. He and I, for that matter, are
not stupid.). And that game... It's like...Like... Woah.
Remember those so-called RPGs(I'm sure you do) in which you play as some adolescent teen,
tasked with the sacred tasks to save the world, fight off some evil villian...Blah blah blah...
Yawn... There are already OVER NINE THOOOOOOUUUUUUUSAAAAAAAAND of these kind
games. However, in Monster Hunter FREEDOM, it's totally different. In a good way.
In Monster Hunter FREEDOM, you start out in a hunting village, having nothing but the most
basic of weapons and wearing nothing but.. Dare I say it.. Tights(There, he said it).
Nothing more. Armour and better weapons must be acquired by yourself. As the
title Monster Hunter implies, you hunt monsters to protect the village(Bah!). Of course,
we wouldn't do that unless there is something in it for us, right? Fortunately, after every quest
will be monetary rewards and most importantly, monster parts(we'll get to that later).
Oh, I almost forgot. There is NO LEVELING BASED SYSTEM. You read that right.
Absolutely none. All that you have between you and the gigantic wyvern is your weapon and
your skills.
Weapons COULD be bought. But they are all basic stuff, using them at higher ranked hunts
would be
SUICIDE. To get better weapons, you must craft, and improvise them. Both
requires monster parts and ores, such as the bone to strengthen weapons, scales and hides to
decorate your armour. And I tell you, it is not simple. Not simple at all. In fact, the
weapons and armour system is quite deep and complex. Its not all about the
weapon power and armour value. Firstly, lets talk about weapons. There are several
types: Sword and Shield, Lance, Great Sword, Hammer, Light/ Heavy Bowguns
and finally, Dual Swords. Each have different styles of attacking and defending. For
example, dual swords can't guard. But it makes up for it by granting insane slashing
speed. Meanwhile, Lance provides excellent protectiveness, but you can't run while
wielding it. Furthermore, each weapon type have a number of different paths.
Swords might have elemental properties. The lance can be made to shoot bullets.
Many possibilities. As for armour, they could add skills to your hunter. Expert
Backpacking allows you to run faster while carrying eggs, poached from dragon nests,
so you might have a chance of escaping from the egg's upset and big, BIG parents. More
examples of other skills would be Improved resistances and Rapid Fire.
Moving on,
Graphics: Astounding , with mists, trees , rivers and background. Checked.
Sound: Very atmospheric music, changes to a dramatic tone when dragons have
decided that you will be their next meal. Checked.
Monsters: From small and agile to BIG AND SCARY MONSTERS. Checked.
Okay, so what's the negative aspect of this game? Hmm...
Er....
This one's tough...
Probably... The absence of a leveling system.. People who whine about
their pathetic skills and want to ''lvl up more'' to fight tougher monsters will consider
this as a flaw. For me, its not, and you shouldn't too. Another flaw would be about
the camera. It kinda.. Sucks. It does not automatically move as you turn around.
You have to control it yourself. It sounds bad, but believe me, as you get
better controlling the camera would be second nature to you. Besides, who
cares about the camera when the a wyvern is ripping you apart, limb from limb??
Score: 9.5
Promises several hundred hours of gameplay(truth). Excellent visual and
audio quality with a nice focus on atmosphere. Sucky camera pulled it down abit.
Whew.. What the hell was I typing? Suddenly felt compelled to write a nice review
for a excellent game. With that aside, nothing going on nowadays. Oh yeah, I got
job, as a waiter. Holy crap is it tiring. Less time for PSP. Sob. But I have
more money now!! No complaints there.
Sigh.. Look at the time! Gotta sleep now or wouldn't be able to go to work tomorrow.
Cyaz!!
juz a loner-`< ...and stuff>
